Homeschooling is hard work. Although, like all things, it is hard in ways I hadn't anticipated.
I'm sure all non-homeschooling parents can anticipate the dearth of "me time", the constant chatter of questions and injuries and accidents and quarrels. I'm sure that any Mum of school-aged children would miss the few moments that the entire house is clean, before their "schoolies" arrive home. When the children don't leave for the day, there is no such moment.
However, I don't find those things to be the hardest parts of homeschooling. |

A lot has been written about babies, sleep and sleep deprivation. There are books and websites galore dedicated to getting your baby to sleep more. I'm not going to reiterate what has already been said a million times over. Instead, I'm going to add just a few little insights of my own.

I Can Do Anything I Set My Mind To |

"I can do anything I set my mind to" is a common catchphrase of the "empowered" Generation X. But is it true?
Just because you may be capable of achieving something doesn't mean you should. I'm not just talking about evil things. I'll give you a personal example. I could continue my tertiary education and in 18mths full time or 36 months part time I could have my Masters Degree. I've always wanted to be very well educated. However, that would mean putting my children in day care and school. Possibly also before and after school care. It would pressurise my time, giving me less time to do the housework. It would give me less time to spend with my kids. It would leave me with less energy to serve others and be hospitable. It would be wrong to pursue this. |

Feminism. Has it wrought us any good? |

Feminism may have brought some perceived benefits to the world but it has brought far more heartache.
Feminism abolished the "rule of thumb" - that a husband had the right to beat his wife with a stick as long as it was no thicker than his thumb. That's a good thing.
Feminism abolished the laws that treated a woman like a piece of property. That is a good thing.
Could these two things have been achieved without feminism? Absolutely!
